West End of Belleville, IL

What do you love most about your neighborhood?

We love being so close to fun restaurants and small businesses. We especially love living so close to the Country Club on the 4th of July because we sit on our roof and watch the fireworks!

What was your journey like buying a home?

We had so much fun looking at homes. We fell in love with a house downtown but it sold before we could get a bid in. We’re so glad because we found the perfect home for us a few weeks later!

What surprised you the most about the home buying process?

It wasn’t as stressful as I imagined it might be. We even cut it to the last minute, closing on our house the day before we had to be out of our apartment, but it was very smooth, mostly in part to Kathy!

My experience working with Kathy was_______.

Amazing! As first-time homebuyers, we had no idea how where to start, what was a good deal, etc. She made it fun and took all of the stress out of it!

Where did you grow up?  How did you decide to stay here?

We both grew up in downtown Belleville. When we thought about settling down and starting a family, we knew we wanted to be close to our families. I work in St. Louis and my husband works in O’Fallon, IL so Belleville was the perfect central location for us.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

Our proudest accomplishment has been buying our first home!

What was your childhood ambition?

I always wanted to move to a big city to work in fashion. When I met Rob, I realized I wanted to live around here and start a family.

What’s your favorite hidden gem?

Although it’s not in our neighborhood, we love going to Cafe Natasha’s in Tower Grove. They have the best beef kabobs and rice that floats on air.

What’s been your biggest challenge?

Our biggest challenge has been incorporating both of our lifestyles and styles into one. Luckily, Rob lets me take the reins on the decorating because he has his man cave upstairs where he can hang his sports, beer, and superhero posters.

What was your first job?

My first job was at Mardio’s, a little ice cream shop by Belleville East High School. -Rachel
My first job was at Shop n Save on the east end of Belleville. -Rob

What’s your greatest inspiration?

My greatest inspiration for decorating my home is definitely Joanna Gaines. I’m super into the farmhouse style, even though Rob says we don’t live in a farmhouse…(eye roll).

What’s on the top of your bucket list?

The top of my bucket list is to visit Ireland. We’re planning a trip for 2020, so I’m excited to cross that off! -Rachel
The top of my bucket list is to live in a shack on a beach somewhere…although Rachel says I’ll have to go alone! -Rob

What organizations do you love?

We love animals and my cousin works at the Humane Society. We also contribute to the ALS Association and participate in the walk every year since I have a friend’s parent and Uncle that have passed from ALS.
